RESUMO

There is an increasing focus on genetically altering Paulownia trees to enhance their resistance against fungal infections, given their rapid growth and quality wood production. The aim of this research was to establish a technique for incorporating two antimicrobial thionin genes, namely thionin-60 (thio-60) and thionin-63 (thio-63), into Paulownia tomentosa and Paulownia hybrid 9501 through the utilization of chitosan nanoparticles. The outcomes revealed the successful gene transfer into Paulownia trees utilizing chitosan nanoparticles. The effectiveness of thionin proteins against plant pathogens Fusarium and Aspergillus was examined, with a specific focus on Fusarium equiseti due to limited available data. In non-transgenic Paulownia species, the leaf weight inhibition percentage varied from 25 to 36%, whereas in transgenic species, it ranged from 22 to 7%. In general, Paulownia species expressing thio-60 displayed increased resistance to F. equiseti, while those expressing thio-63 exhibited heightened resistance to A. niger infection. The thionin proteins displayed a strong affinity for the phospholipid bilayer of the fungal cell membrane, demonstrating their capability to disrupt its structure. The transgenic plants created through this technique showed increased resistance to fungal infections. Thionin-60 demonstrated superior antifungal properties in comparison to thio-63, being more effective at disturbing the fungal cell membrane. These findings indicate that thio-60 holds potential as a novel antifungal agent and presents a promising approach for enhancing the antimicrobial traits of genetically modified Paulownia trees.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Uncontrolled hypertension (UH) is a significant public health issue in both developed and developing countries. This study aimed to analyze the clinical spectrum and degrees of severity of hypertension, antihypertensive use, and factors associated with UH. METHOD: Hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted at the emergency-department of Mogadishu Somali Turkey Training and Research Hospital from September 2021 to August 2022. A total of 278 hypertensive patients were selected using a convenient sampling technique. Data was entered into and cleaned by Excel and exported to SPSS version-26.0 for analysis. A binary logistic regression model (AOR, 95% CI and p-value<0.05) was used to determine the predictors of UH. RESULTS: The prevalence of UH was 62%(n=172). Of the total respondents, 144(51.8%) were males. The predominance of the respondents(n=147, 52.9%) were in the age group 40-69years. Almost 65.8%(n=183) of the participants were married. 112(40.3%) of the participants had no formal education. The majority of the participants (n=192, 69.1%%) were unemployed. 225(81%) patients had at least one or more coexisting diseases. Diabetes was the most common comorbid(47.4%). The most common clinical manifestations observed in the study group were headache(21%). According to the stages of hypertension, most of the patients have a Hypertensive crisis(20.9%). Among the participants, 50% were on calcium channel blockers(CCBs). Additionally, the majority (53.2%) were receiving monotherapy. Patients who have no comorbidity (AOR=0.178, 95% CI:0.066-0.447), not performed diet control (AOR=15.475, 95% CI:6.666-35.929), and non-adherence to physical-activity (AOR=5.585, 95% CI:2.834-12.792) are independent predictors of UH. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of UH among patients with hypertension in Somalia was high. Unhealthy lifestyles and non-adherence to physical activity were the major modifiable risk factors for UH. Regular health education during follow-up visits by nurses and physicians is crucial in preventing the issue by providing continuous information on lifestyle practices and the potential complications associated with hypertension.

RESUMO

Photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants is a green and effective route of wastewater treatment. Zinc oxide was initially used for this purpose; however, calcined zinc/chromium layered double hydroxide (ZnCr-LDO) and cadmium sulfide quantum dots (CdSQDs)-based nanocomposites proved as superior alternatives. Herein, we report a green sonochemical method for the sol-gel fabrication of novel CdSQDs@ZnCr-LDO/ZnO ternary nanocomposite that exhibited exceptional photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B dye (RhB), in wastewaters, under UV-A-irradiation. The features of the ternary nanocomposite were investigated using various physicochemical techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, XPS, BET, zeta potential, DRS, and PL measurements. The RhB dye % removal was 38.02, 40.2, and 98% using pristine ZnO, ZnCr-LDO and the ternary CdSQDs@ZnCr-LDO/ZnO-based nanomaterials, respectively, reflecting the superior ternary nanocomposite's photocatalytic activity that made it an excellent competitor to commonly reported photocatalysts. Additionally, an investigation was carried out to determine the key reactive species in the photocatalytic degradation of RhB, considering both scavenger's type and concentration. The prevailing mechanism was found to be the reductive photodegradation pathway. Furthermore, several models were utilized to describe the kinetics of photocatalytic performance of the ternary nanocomposite and a typical Z-scheme type-II photocatalytic heterojunction mechanism was inferred.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Opioid overdoses in the USA have increased to unprecedented levels. Administration of the opioid antagonist naloxone can prevent overdoses. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to reveal the pharmacoepidemiologic patterns in naloxone prescribing to Medicaid patients from 2018 to 2021 as well as Medicare in 2019. DESIGN: Observational pharmacoepidemiologic study SETTING: US Medicare and Medicaid naloxone claims INTERVENTION: The Medicaid State Drug Utilisation Data File was utilised to extract information on the number of prescriptions and the amount prescribed of naloxone at a national and state level. The Medicare Provider Utilisation and Payment was also utilised to analyse prescription data from 2019. OUTCOME MEASURES: States with naloxone prescription rates that were outliers of quartile analysis were noted. RESULTS: The number of generic naloxone prescriptions per 100 000 Medicaid enrollees decreased by 5.3%, whereas brand naloxone prescriptions increased by 245.1% from 2018 to 2021. There was a 33.1-fold difference in prescriptions between the highest (New Mexico=1809.5) and lowest (South Dakota=54.6) states in 2019. Medicare saw a 30.4-fold difference in prescriptions between the highest (New Mexico) and lowest states (also South Dakota) after correcting per 100 000 enrollees. CONCLUSIONS: This pronounced increase in the number of naloxone prescriptions to Medicaid patients from 2018 to 2021 indicates a national response to this widespread public health emergency. Further research into the origins of the pronounced state-level disparities is warranted.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: About 287,000 mothers lost their lives due to pregnancy and delivery in 2020 worldwide. Birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR) is an approach used to utilize the timely use of skilled maternal and neonatal services. Preparing mothers for childbirth and against its dangers has great importance in reducing maternal mortality. Little is known about BPCR and influencing factors in Hargeisa town, Somaliland. OBJECTIVE: To assess the level of BPCR and its associated factors among recently delivered women in Hargeisa. METHODS: A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out in September 2022 among 300 women who delivered in the one-year time interval before the study period. A census was done to identify the women, and then they were selected by simple random sampling. Face-to-face interviews were conducted using a pre-structured questionnaire. A woman was considered prepared for birth if she made preparations for at least three of the BPCR components. Data were cleaned, entered, and analyzed using SPSS V.25. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed with a cut-point of 0.05 significance level. RESULTS: From a total of 300 women, 38.3% had good knowledge of BPCR, and only one-fourth (25%) were prepared for birth and its complications. Access and media usage (AOR = 9.64, CI 1.09-82.248), receiving health education about BPCR (AOR = 3.75, CI 1.01-13.87), giving birth at health institutions (AOR = 6.02, CI 1.39-25.95), and good knowledge of key danger signs of pregnancy (AOR = 0.017, CI 0.004-0.069) were factors significantly associated with BPCR practice. CONCLUSION: The study identified that the BPCR level was very low compared to many other studies. Such a low BPCR level may have a negative impact on maternal health and lives, hindering interventions conducted to reduce maternal mortality rates. All concerned bodies should consider the importance of awareness creation regarding BPCR in their core interventions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Resin-based composites (RBCs) evolved into favoured materials for teeth restorations, marking a significant change in dental practice. Despite many advantages, RBCs exhibit various limitations in their physical and chemical properties. Therefore, we assessed the dentists' awareness of possible complications after direct composite restorations and their opinions about this material. METHODS: The online questionnaire was created in English in May 2023. A 16-item survey was dedicated to general dentists and specialists. The first section included four questions related to demographic characteristics. The second section comprised twelve questions and focused on awareness of potential side effects of composite restorations, the most crucial advantages and disadvantages of composite resins, and the frequency of experienced clinical complications after the application of composite materials. RESULTS: A total of 1830 dentists from 13 countries took part in the survey. Dentists most often declared awareness of low adhesion to the dentine (77.5 %) and, most rarely, solubility in oral fluids (42.6 %). Aesthetics was identified as the main advantage of composite fillings (79 %), followed by the possibility of repair (59 %) and adhesion to enamel (57 %). Polymerisation shrinkage was a major disadvantage for most countries (70 % overall). Analysing the declared potential clinical complications for all countries, statistically significant findings were obtained for marginal discolouration (OR=2.982, 95 % CI: 1.321-6.730, p-value=0.009) and borderline significance for secondary caries (OR=1.814, 95 % CI: 0.964-3.415, p-value=0.065). CONCLUSIONS: Dentists value aesthetics and repairability but are aware of shrinkage and experience discolouration. The issue of toxicity and solubility seems to be the least known to dentists. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Dentists should use RBCs with critical caution due to possible side effects. Despite the undoubted aesthetics of direct composite restorations, it is necessary to remember potential clinical complications such as marginal discolouration or secondary caries.

RESUMO

This study primarily investigates the natural radioactivity level in alkaline rocks collected from the Wadi El-Dib ring complex (WDRC) in North Eastern Desert of Egypt, and assesses potential health risks associated with their use as decorative building materials. The work was accomplished using a high-purity germanium detector as well as ICP-MS and ICP-AES techniques. The WDRC composed essentially of trachyte, quartz syenite, granite and syenite. Geochemically, these rocks contain high SiO2 and alkalis with metaluminous to slightly peraluminous features. All rocks contain high concentrations of rare earth elements (∑REEs = 109-1075 ppm), with clear enrichment in light REEs compared to heavy REEs [(La/Yb)N = 8.3-25.3. Radiometrically, the concentrations of the natural radioisotopes (238U, 232Th, and 40K) in the studied rock types surpassed the worldwide average values assigned for building materials by UNSCEAR. This elevation of the radioisotope concentration values is due to the presence of supplement minerals such as monazite, zircon, allanite, and rutile. Granites exhibit the highest mean concentrations of 238U (av. 164.24 ± 14.76 Bq/kg) and 232Th (av. 214.37 ± 23.33 Bq/kg), while trachytes demonstrate the highest 40K (av. 1352.56 ± 65.56 Bq/kg) concentrations. In contrast, syenites exhibite the lowest mean concentrations for 238U (av. 54.51 ± 6.81 Bq/kg) and 232Th (av. 56.76 ± 6.25 Bq/kg), while quartz syenites display the lowest mean concentration of 40K (av. 1144.78 ± 96.19 Bq/kg). The radiogenic heat production (RHP) associated with U, Th, and K range between 1.41 to 9.33 µW/m3, exceeding the typical crustal mean value of 0.8 to 1.2 µW/m3. The radiological parameters and indices evaluating risks of the outdoor and indoor radiation doses due to the investigated rocks were assessed. The results indicated that these rocks meet globally accepted values and safety standards (approved by UNSCEAR, ICRP, and EC) for surface building materials, as well as they underscore the importance of adhering to safety protocols to safeguard workers from radiation exposure within the WDRC area. Ultimately, the data herein provide a valuable database for assessing the compatibility of geochemical data and natural radioactivity level in WDRC rocks. Additionally, it reveals that from the radiological perspective, the investigated rocks are considered safe for use as decorative construction materials.

RESUMO

The emergence of microgrids arises from the growing integration of Renewable Energy Resources (RES) and Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) into Distribution Networks (DNs). Effective integration, coordination, and control of Multiple Microgrids (MMGs) whereas navigating the complexities of energy transition within this context poses a significant challenge. The dynamic operation of MMGs is a challenge faced by the traditional distributed hierarchical control techniques. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques is a promising way to improve the control and dynamic operation of MMGs in future smart DNs. In this paper, an innovative hybrid optimization technique that originates from Cheetah Optimization (CHO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques is proposed, known as HYCHOPSO. Extensive benchmark testing validates HYCHOPSO's superiority over CHO and PSO in terms of convergence performance. The objective for this hybridization stems from the complementary strengths of CHO and PSO. CHO demonstrates rapid convergence in local search spaces, while PSO excels in global exploration. By combining these techniques, the aim is to leverage their respective advantages and enhance the algorithm's overall performance in addressing complex optimization problems. The contribution of this paper offering a unique approach to addressing optimization challenges in microgrid systems. Through a comprehensive comparative study, HYCHOPSO is evaluated against various metaheuristic optimization approaches, demonstrating superior performance, particularly in optimizing the design parameters of Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers for hierarchical control systems within microgrids. This contribution expands the repertoire of available optimization methodologies and offers practical solutions to critical challenges in microgrid optimization, enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of microgrid operations. HYCHOPSO achieves its optimal score within fewer than 50 iterations, unlike CHO, GWO, PSO, Hybrid-GWO-PSO, and SSIA-PSO, which stabilize after around 200 iterations. Across various benchmark functions, HYCHOPSO consistently demonstrates the lowest mean values, attains scores closer to the optimal values of the benchmark functions, underscoring its robust convergence capabilities.the proposed HYCHOPSO algorithm, paired with a PI controller for distributed hierarchical control, minimizes errors and enhances system reliability during dynamic MMG operations. Using HYCHOPSO framework, an accurate power sharing, voltage/frequency stability, seamless grid-to-island transition, and smooth resynchronization are achieved. This enhances the real application's reliability, flexibility, scalability and robustness.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Management of uncontained medial proximal tibial defects during primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can be challenging, especially for defects ≥ 10 mm in depth. This study sought to assess the outcomes of autogenous structural bone grafts to address these defects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective study, patients with uncontained medial proximal tibial defects ≥ 10 mm in depth undergoing TKA were managed by autogenous structural bone grafts fixed by screws and were followed up for at least 36 months. Patients were followed-up clinically with Knee Society Score (KSS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Additionally, radiological follow-up was done to assess bone graft union and implant stability. RESULTS: The study included 48 patients with a mean age of 69.2 ± 4.5 years. The mean body mass index (BMI) was 31.4 ± 3.7 kg/m2. The mean defect depth was 17 ± 3.6 mm. With a mean follow-up period of 52.2 ± 12.3 months, the median KSS improved significantly from 30 preoperatively to 89, P < 0.001. The median WOMAC score reduced significantly from 85 preoperatively to 30.5, P < 0.001. The mean ROM increased significantly from 73 ± 12.4 preoperatively to 124 ± 8.4 degrees, P < 0.001. The mean graft union time was 4.9 ± 1 months. No significant complications were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Autogenous bone graft reconstruction is a safe and effective method of addressing uncontained medial proximal tibial defects in primary TKA. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

RESUMO

Aim: The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effect of calcium phophosilicate-based bioceramic "Totalfill bioceramic putty" and white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) as the coronal plug on discoloration after revascularization of necrotic immature permanent anterior teeth. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on (48) necrotic young permanent central incisors in children ranging from 8 to 14 years old, that were randomly allocated to either Totalfill bioceramic (Group I = 24) or WMTA (Group II = 24) as the coronal plug. Two visits revascularization protocol was adopted in this study using 1.5% sodium hypochlorite, followed by 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, and ending with a saline flush as irrigation solution. The double antibiotic paste was used as intracanal medication. The blood clot was used as scaffold followed by the application of collagen membrane followed by coronal plud malterial. Finally, the access was sealed using resin composite restoration and composite restoration. Clinical assessment was conducted at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, while radiographic assessment was conducted at 6 and 12 months. Data were statistically analyzed using the Chi-squared test for intergroup comparisons and Cochran's Q test for intragroup comparison. Results: Clinically, Group I exhibited a success rate of 100%, whereas Group II exhibited a success rate of 85.7%. Radiographically, both materials showed a 90.5% success rate. There was no statistically significant difference between both materials for all assessed clinical and radiographic parameters at different follow-up periods. Conclusions: Both Totalfill bioceramic putty and WMTA can be used successfully as coronal plug in esthetic areas.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Both bone forearm fractures (BBFFs) are a common injury amongst the pediatric population. The main indications of surgical fixation are open, irreducible, or unstable fractures. The two most commonly used surgical techniques are closed or open reduction with intramedullary fixation (IMF) and open reduction with plate fixation (PF). The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine which fixation method is superior for BBFFs. METHODS: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CENTRAL were searched to identify studies comparing IMF and PF. We extracted data on union rates, complications, early hardware removal rates, reoperation rates, and radiographic, clinical, and perioperative outcomes. RESULTS: Sixteen studies were included in the analysis, with a total of 922 patients (539 IMF and 383 PF). Similar union rates were achieved by both fixation technique. IMF was associated with a higher incidence of symptomatic hardware, and early hardware removal. Better restoration of the radial bow was observed with the PF group, especially in older children and adolescents. The rate of excellent function was comparable between groups, whereas better cosmesis was reported with the IMF group. Despite shorter fluoroscopy time and immobilization time, PF demonstrated longer tourniquet time, operating time, and hospital stay compared to IMF. CONCLUSIONS: We found no significant difference between IMF and PF in terms of union rates and functional outcomes taking in consideration the merits and demerits of each technique. High-quality randomized controlled trials are, therefore, necessary to determine the superiority of one fixation technique over the other. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: III.

RESUMO

This study embarked on an exploration into the genetic structure and evolutionary history of the Chrysichthys auratus species, leveraging PCR amplification, phylogenetic trees, and haplotype networks. Specific DNA segments were successfully amplified and visualized through electrophoresis. Newly obtained sequences were Bank into GenBank and given accession numbers (OR730807-OR730808-OR730809). The Neighbor-Joining method provided insights into the evolutionary relationships among taxa, further augmented by bootstrap values and the Tamura 3-parameter method. A comprehensive geographical haplotype network showcased pronounced genetic differentiation, especially between remote populations. Nonetheless, shared haplotypes between proximate regions indicated either ancestral genetic connections or ongoing gene flow. Employing the COI-DNA barcodes, an in-depth understanding of intra- and inter-populational genetic diversity was achieved. The study's findings unravel the intricate genetic landscape and evolutionary dynamics of C. auratus, offering novel perspectives into its demographic history across its vast native habitat.

RESUMO

The study aims to explore bee venom (honey-BV) as a potential natural preservative for "Tallaga" soft cheese. Characterization of the active compounds in honey-BV was conducted via chromatographic analyses. Antimicrobial efficacy against pathogenic bacteria and fungi was evaluated, and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined. Subsequently, honey-BV was applied to Tallaga cheese at 15 mg/g concentrations. The main active ingredients identified in bee venom were apamin (2%) and melittin (48.7%). Both concentrations of bee venom (100 and 200 mg/mL) exhibited significant antifungal and antibacterial properties against tested organisms, with MIC values varied from 0.2 to 0.5 mg/mL for bacteria to 3-13 mg/mL for fungi. Application of honey-BV in Tallaga cheese resulted in complete elimination of Staphylococcal populations after 2 weeks of cold storage, with no detectable growth of molds or yeasts throughout the storage period. Additionally, a steady decrease in aerobic plate count was observed over time. In summary, honey-BV holds promise as a natural preservative for soft cheese, however, more investigation is required to optimize the concentration for economic viability, taking into account health benefits and safety considerations.

RESUMO

(1) Background: Neck pain intensity, psychosocial factors, and physical function have been identified as potential predictors of neck disability. Machine learning algorithms have shown promise in classifying patients based on their neck disability status. So, the current study was conducted to identify predictors of neck disability in patients with neck pain based on clinical findings using machine learning algorithms. (2) Methods: Ninety participants with chronic neck pain took part in the study. Demographic characteristics in addition to neck pain intensity, the neck disability index, cervical spine contour, and surface electromyographic characteristics of the axioscapular muscles were measured. Participants were categorised into high disability and low disability groups based on the median value (22.2) of their neck disability index scores. Several regression and classification machine learning models were trained and assessed using a 10-fold cross-validation method; also, MANCOVA was used to compare between the two groups. (3) Results: The multilayer perceptron (MLP) revealed the highest adjusted R2 of 0.768, while linear discriminate analysis showed the highest receiver characteristic operator (ROC) area under the curve of 0.91. Pain intensity was the most important feature in both models with the highest effect size of 0.568 with p < 0.001. (4) Conclusions: The study findings provide valuable insights into pain as the most important predictor of neck disability in patients with cervical pain. Tailoring interventions based on pain can improve patient outcomes and potentially prevent or reduce neck disability.

RESUMO

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the most complex neurodevelopmental disorders. It affects almost all human physiological systems. Individuals with ASD often display dysregulation in their autonomic nervous system (ANS), which may elicit differing effects across age groups. Also, studying the ANS missed several important parameters related to ANS. Studying the ANS is crucial in developing adaptive behavioural strategies and maintaining communication abilities and social behaviours. Thus, this study compared the immediate effect of physical activity on the ANS in individuals with ASD in different age groups. Methods: 200 participants (106 males and 94 females) took part in a double-blinded randomised design. All participants were divided into four groups according to their age (4-7, 7-10, 10-13 and 14-18 years old). Participants performed a 60 min treadmill walk. The main outcome measurements were heart rate (HR), saturation of peripheral oxygen (SpO2), respiratory rate (RR) and end-tidal carbon dioxide (etCO2). Results: Before the study, there were non-significant differences between groups in their physical characteristics (body mass index, Childhood Autism Rating Scale, physical activity level, both parents' existence, aerobic capacity and gender) (p>0.05). At baseline measurements, there were non-significant differences between all groups for all outcome measurements (p>0.05). Immediately after physical activity, there was significant difference between group 1 and other groups (p<0.05), while all other differences were non-significant (p>0.05). At the follow-up (after 15 min of rest), group 1 maintained significant differences with the other groups for all outcome measurements (p<0.05), while there were non-significant differences between the other three groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study revealed that the SpO2 significantly decreased immediately after the physical activity, while HR, RR and etCO2 significantly increased immediately after physical activity in comparison to the baseline measurements. Contrary to other ANS parameters (SpO2, RR and etCO2), HR in early ages (4-7 years old) was higher after physical activity and remained elevated longer than other ages. The early ages (4-7 years old) take more time to return to the normal status of ANS parameters including SpO2, HR, RR and etCO2. Trial registration number: NCT05725733.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of the mesial and distal off-axial extensions of implant-retained prostheses in the posterior maxilla with different prosthetic materials using finite element analysis (FEA). METHODS: Three dimensional (3D) finite element models with three implant configurations and prosthetic designs (fixed-fixed, mesial cantilever, and distal cantilever) were designed and modelled depending upon cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of an intact maxilla of an anonymous patient. Implant prostheses with two materials; Monolithic zirconia (Zr) and polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) were also modeled .The 3D modeling software Mimics Innovation Suite (Mimics 14.0 / 3-matic 7.01; Materialise, Leuven, Belgium) was used. All the models were imported into the FE package Marc/Mentat (ver. 2015; MSC Software, Los Angeles, Calif). Then, individual models were subjected to separate axial loads of 300 N. Von mises stress values were computed for the prostheses, implants, and bone under axial loading. RESULTS: The highest von Mises stresses in implant (111.6 MPa) and bone (100.0 MPa) were recorded in distal cantilever model with PEKK material, while the lowest values in implant (48.9 MPa) and bone (19.6 MPa) were displayed in fixed fixed model with zirconia material. The distal cantilever model with zirconia material yielded the most elevated levels of von Mises stresses within the prosthesis (105 MPa), while the least stresses in prosthesis (35.4 MPa) were recorded in fixed fixed models with PEKK material. CONCLUSIONS: In the light of this study, the combination of fixed fixed implant prosthesis without cantilever using a rigid zirconia material exhibits better biomechanical behavior and stress distribution around bone and implants. As a prosthetic material, low elastic modulus PEKK transmitted more stress to implants and surrounding bone especially with distal cantilever.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) is the causative agent of TB, a chronic granulomatous illness. This disease is prevalent in low-income countries, posing a significant global health challenge. Gastrointestinal TB is one of the three forms. The disease can mimic other intra-abdominal conditions, leading to delayed diagnosis owing to the absence of specific symptoms. While gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) remains a frequent complication, its incidence has declined with the advent of proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. Gastroduodenal TB can cause upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, obstruction, and malignancy-like tumors. CASE SUMMARY: A 23-year-old male presented with recurrent epigastric pain, distension, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss, prompting a referral to a gastroenterologist clinic. Endoscopic examination revealed distorted gastric mucosa and signs of chronic inflammation. However, treatment was interrupted, possibly owing to vomiting or comorbidities such as human immunodeficiency virus infection or diabetes. Subsequent surgical intervention revealed a dilated stomach and diffuse thickening of the duodenal wall. Resection revealed gastric wall effacement with TB. CONCLUSION: Primary gastric TB is rare, frequently leading to GOO. Given its rarity, suspicions should be promptly raised when encountering relevant symptoms, often requiring surgical intervention for diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMO

One of the significant aromatic plants applied in food and pharma is cumin. Despite its massive trading in Egypt, there are no comprehensive reports on cumin landraces profile screening. This study aimed to investigate the variation in seeds' physical and biochemical profiles and genetic diversity as well as assess the efficiency of seeds' germination under salinity stress. Consequently, during the 2020/2021 growing season, four common cumin seed landraces were gathered from various agro-climatic regions: El Gharbia, El Menia, Assiut, and Qena. Results showed a significant variation in physical profile among the four seeds of landraces. In addition, Assiut had the highest percentage of essential oil at 8.04%, whilst Qena had the largest amount of cumin aldehyde, the primary essential oil component, at 25.19%. Lauric acid was found to be the predominant fatty acid (54.78 to 62.73%). According to ISSR amplification, El Menia presented a negative unique band, whereas other landraces offered a positive band. Additionally, the cumin genotypes were separated into two clusters by the dendrogram, with El Gharbia being located in an entirely separate cluster. There were two sub-clusters within the other cluster: El Menia in one and Assiut and Qena in the other. Moreover, the germination sensitivity to the diverse salinity concentrations (control, 4, 8, 12, and 16 dS/m) findings showed that landraces exhibited varying responses to increased salinity when El Gharbia and El Menia showed a moderate response at four dS/m. Whilst, Qena landraces showed supreme values among other landraces under 12 and 16 dS/m. The majority of the examined features had strong positive associations over a range of salinity levels, according to phenotypic correlation coefficient analysis. To accomplish the aims of sustainable agriculture in Egypt, it would be imperative that the potential breeding program for cumin landraces consider this screening study.
